Which Florida college has a better premed program?
Apply to U Florida, if you like it. Don't rely on your overall GPA. Yes, apply to schools that fit your overall GPA, but also apply to one or two schools that seem to be a reach for your overall GPA, but that fit your GPA from your sophomore and junior years.
The fact that you did well in your sophomore and junior years will be weighted quite heavily by university admissions. In addition, your strong SAT scores will support that. Don't *NOT* apply to U Florida because your overall GPA is too low, if your sophomore and junior GPA is in their range!
Have I hammered that in enough? :LOL: Apply to U F. I think you might actually have a shot there. And U F has the strongest pre-med program of those you listed.
When you're looking at schools, ask them what percentage of their applicants to US med schools actually get in. That'll tell you which one has the strongest pre-med program. But in general, if med school is your goal, go to the strongest uni you can get into and that fits you well, as things like your performance at uni, and the academic reputation of your undergrad program, matter in terms of med school admissions.
Thus I'd probably rank your choices as follows, but again, ask the unis what their percent admit rate is re: med schools:
- U Florida
- U Miami
- Florida State U
- New College of Florida
- Rollins College
- and then UCF and USF
You'll noticed I added in a couple for your consideration.
Be very specific in the question you ask them. Ask, “Of every 100 students who start out pre-med, what percent end up actually attending medical school?”
Make sure they don't answer "Oh, 90% of *qualified* applicants..." No. Wrong answer.
